Shixinggia

  • China ( Guangdong)
  • Shixinggia oblita

Shixinggia is a theropod dinosaurs within the Oviraptorosauria from the Late Cretaceous of China.

The only known type ( type species ), Shixinggia oblita, this genus was first described in 2005. Although only a few bones were found, it is assumed that Shixinggia like other Oviraptorosaurier had a short tail and a deep, edentulous jaw, which was formed into a beak. Presumably it was a plant or omnivores.

Fund and naming

The so far only Fund ( holotype, catalog number BPV- 112) was discovered in 1995 in the district of Shixing in the Chinese province of Guangdong. The fossils are dated to the outgoing Upper Cretaceous ( Maastrichtian ) and are derived from the stratigraphically Pingling lineup.

Found the almost complete sacrum, with three posterior dorsal vertebrae and three anterior caudal vertebrae were discovered in the natural anatomical composite, two incomplete ribs, both iliac bones ( Ilia ), parts of the thigh bone (femur), shinbone ( tibia), the fibula ( fibula ) and the fourth phalanx.

The name Shixinggia points on the circle Shixing in which the fossils were discovered. The Artepitheth oblita comes from Latin and means something like " unkempt ". For the first time the fossils were described and named in 2004 by Lu, the official description of Lu and Zhang followed in 2005.

Features

Shixinggia is defined by features ( autapomorphies ) to the pelvic and leg bones of other species: For example, the ilium relative to the length quite high, further showing the femur and tibia large openings that are not known from any other Oviraptorosaurier.
