Sidney Souers

Sidney William Souers (born 30 March 1892 in Dayton (Ohio ), † January 14, 1973 in St. Louis ) was an American admiral and intelligence expert.

He has held the following positions:

  • Director of the Central Intelligence Agency in 1946
  • Executive Secretary of the National Security Council 1947-1950
  • Advisor to the U.S. President for military and foreign affairs 1950-1953

On January 23, 1946 Souers of Harry S. Truman was appointed the first director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Prior to his appointment, he was Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence. He is the author of the secret chapter of the Eberstadt reports.
