Sigismund Rákóczi

Sigismund I Rákóczi (Hungarian Zsigmond; * 1544, † December 5, 1608 ) was 1607-1608 Prince of Transylvania.

Sigismund I. Rákóczi was elected after the death of Stephan Botchkay on February 11, 1607 by the Transylvanian parliament for Prince of Transylvania and remained so until 7 March 1608 when he was replaced by Gabriel Báthory.

He was a supporter of the Reformed Church. His family was originally from the county Zemplén in Hungary. Under Stephan Botchkay he was prefect.

His grandson, George II Rákóczi (* 1593, † 1648) later married in Gyulafehérvár Zsófia Báthory.
