Sigleß

Sigleß is a municipality in the district of Matter castle in Burgenland in Austria. The Hungarian name of the village is Siklos, the Croatian village name is Cikleš. The municipality is located in the Natural Park Rosalia Kogelberg.

Geography

Sigleß is the only place in the community.

The municipality lies in the plane between Rosalie and Leitha Mountains and is drained by the noble stream.

History

As demonstrated numerous sites in the area, the municipality of Sigleß was already inhabited in the Neolithic period.

Before Christ's birth, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the area of the Celtic hillfort castle on the Schwarzenbacher Castle Hill. Later in the Roman Empire the area was part of the province Pannonia.

In Roman times, led a road that linked the former Römersiedelungen " Scar ( a) Bantia " ( Sopron ) and " Aquae " (Baden) with each other, passing near Sigleß. During excavations in 2008 Roman urn dating from the 1st century AD were discovered. 2009, in addition to a Roman cremation cemetery also spätawarisch - frühkarolingische discoveries were made.

From the time of the Avars in the 8th and 9th centuries AD are in Kloaschitzwald outside of the village numerous tumuli. Since August 2007, excavations have taken place here regularly. Here, a necropolis tombs of the late 8th and early 9th century AD were found.

The place name is first Sigless 1325 mentioned in a document in the notation " Sykels ". After a day in the National Archives of Hungary Budapest resting certificate of the son of Count Simon of Mattersdorf - Forchtenstein, Master Paul, its coming from Austria bride Elisabeth Pott village handed over the settlement Sigless as a " wedding gift ". 1346 Sigleß became part of the county Forchtenstein who moved into the possession of Prince Nikolaus Esterházy in the first half of the 17th century.

As in many other places in Burgenland Croatian colonists were also in Sigless in the 16th century, located, where the proportions of the German and Croats - as in the places Antau ( Otava ), Kittsee ( Gijeca ) and Steger Bach ( Santalek ) - in the past is always held in the balance. Since the interwar period, the proportion of Croats decreases steadily, and today only a few residents can be counted to the ethnic group of the Burgenland Croats (percentage of Croats in the total population - 1910: 36.7 % 1934: 29.9%, 1971: 13, 2%, 2001: 3.0%).

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name " Siklos ".

After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland ( → History of Burgenland ).

Sigleß was called until 1937 Siegleß.

Incorporations

1971 in the wake of the municipality mergers formerly independent municipality Krensdorf was merged with the municipality Sigleß. What initially seemed to work fairly well, threw over time to growing problems, so that the two communities were separated again in 1998.

Policy

Mayor Joseph is Kutrovatz of the SPÖ.

The distribution of seats (19 seats) in the municipal council is SPÖ 12, ÖVP and FPÖ 6 1 mandate.

Blazon: In an upright red golden lion holding a golden grape with his front paws. The coat of arms was granted by the Office of the Sigleß Burgenland state government on 19 May 1982.
