Kittsee

Kittsee is a market town with 2533 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Neusiedl am See in Burgenland in Austria.

The Hungarian name of the village is Köpcsény, Slovak Kopčany, the Croatian Gijeca.

Geography

Kittsee is the only place in the community. It lies directly on the border with Slovakia in Bratislava. The original church was larger and lasted until the present territory of Slovakia. After the demarcation of 1919 only the western part lies on Austrian territory. The separated part is now a part of the fifth district of Bratislava, Petržalka and carries the Slovak name Kopčany.

History

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary).

The Jewish Kittsee
