Frauenkirchen

Woman Churches is a town in the district of Neusiedl am See ( Burgenland) with 2830 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ), of which belong to more than 7 % of the ethnic group of the Burgenland -Hungarian Empire. The Hungarian name of the city is Boldogasszony or Fertőboldogasszony.

History

First documented was a settlement called Szent Maria in 1324. 1529 and 1683, the village and the church were destroyed by the Turks. The reconstruction took place under Prince Paul I. Esterhazy. Order of 1695 to 1702, built the Basilica and the Franciscan Monastery, the place from the end of the 17th century gradually developed into a regional trading center, which like the rest of Burgenland belonged until 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary).
