Neudorf (Croatian Novo Selo ) is a majority- Croatian-speaking community with 715 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria.

The Hungarian name of the village is Mosonújfalu.

Geography

The community of Neudorf is 176 meters above sea level in the north of Burgenland near Parndorf. The nearby towns are Gattendorf (Burgenland), Potzneusiedl and Parndorf.

History

There are Roman Age finds at the western edge of the town, such as stone slabs and stone cists. In a deed dated November 26, 1074 the place is mentioned as Nowendorf. 1525 Neudorf is referred to as " barren village"; and in the 1570s, with Croatian settlers newly studded by the landlords, Count Harrach. In 1897 it was connected to the railway line Parndorf - Bratislava.

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Mosonújfalu. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

The community of Neudorf in 1971 merged with the community spouse to the community spouse village village -Neudorf. With the separation of the municipalities on 1 January 1990, it gained its independence again.
