Edelstal is a municipality with 632 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria.

The Hungarian name of the village is Nemesvölgy.

Geography

Edelstal, the northernmost town in Burgenland, nestled in a valley in the foothills of the lower Carpathians.

History

Numerous finds evidence of a settlement long ago. In 1884 parts of a Roman villa and an Avar cemetery were discovered by Hungarian researchers István Soeter.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In a red shield one of two golden hands held blue bowl from which rises a blue fountain that is covered with gold framed blue beads; the fountain is surmounted by a golden grape and three golden ears.

The coat of arms was granted on 27 January 1998. For centuries, is operated on precious dollars soil vineyards and cereal crops, which formed the basis of life for the residents of the community in addition to the livestock. The source, which south of the village bubbles for many centuries and is marketed by the company Römerquelle, has a great influence on the development of the community.

Culture and sights

The " Kath Parish Church of St. Stephen, King of Hungary " ( Standort48.09866666666716.99 ) was provided as the sole object of the municipality Edelstal from Bundesdenkmalamt under protection.

The church is a large hall building, which was built in 1740 and expanded several times. The high altar from the first quarter of the 18th century comes from the church of the Augustinian monastery in Eisenstadt and was transferred in 1792.

Economy and infrastructure

Edelstal is the seat of mineral water bottler Römerquelle, one of the most well-known mineral water brands in Austria.
