Wallern im Burgenland is a market town in Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria with 1762 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The Hungarian name of the village is Valla.

Geography

Wallern im Burgenland is located in Seewinkel, a few kilometers from the Hungarian border. With an altitude of 120m Wallern is one of the deepest places in Austria.

History

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Valla. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

Market town is Wallern in Burgenland since 1998.

Blazon: In the red and gold diagonal left divided shield top of green hill with three gold, red inseminated, vierblätterige flowers on leafy stems growing, below a green tower with a golden, rectangular door opening, a niche, a rectangular window, a Uhrscheibe and a round-arched window is divided.

The municipality colors are red and gold.
