Apetlon (Hungarian: Mosonbánfalva ) is a market town with 1790 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria. It lies in the east of Lake Neusiedl in the region Seewinkel.

Geography

Apetlon located in the National Park Neusiedler See - Seewinkel on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl directly to the Hungarian border. The village itself is situated at 120 meters above sea level; but in the municipal area is also the deepest at 114 meters above sea level spot in Austria. A characteristic feature of the landscape there are wide open plains and salt flora that many small paints, such as the Darscho surrounds.

History

Documented the village was first mentioned in 1318. The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( Moson county ). His first name is Hungarian " Vitézfelde " ( land of warriors ), later " Apátlan " ( Fatherless ), takes place in an issue of the Wiener Zeitung of 1814 the village as " Appetlohn " mention. This then was probably the present-day German name.

After the end of World War I in 1919 Austria was granted after tough negotiations western Hungary in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ). Market town is Apetlon since 1991 ( by VO 79).

Policy

Mayor 's Ronald Payer, who was able to prevail in the Mayor direct elections in 2007 against Vice Mayor George shine. The municipal elections in 2007 led to slight gains of the ÖVP, which reached an absolute majority with 50.4 %. Also, the SPÖ was able to record slight gains, with 44.7% but remained little more clearly behind the ÖVP back as 2002. FPÖ emerged from the elections as losers, but could after losses of about 3% and a vote share of 4.9 % their only mandate to defend.

Attractions

Since December 2001, the National Park Lake Neusiedl - Seewinkel UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Economy and infrastructure

In Apetlon viticulture is mainly operated. The tourism industry also has great significance. Especially in May every year come many ornithologists from all over Europe to observe the rare birds in the Long paints and the many Puszta areas and photograph. Long before the establishment of the National Park Long paints was an important nature reserve, where scientific data collection was operated for birdlife already more than one hundred years.

Language

Apetlonerisch is a separate dialect in Seewinkel.
