Half- turn is a municipality with 1904 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria. The Hungarian name of the village is Féltorony.

Half Turn ( Burgenland " Hoibtuan " ) located near the Hungarian border.

The neighboring resorts in Austria are Mrs. churches, Gols, nickel village, St. Andrä and Andau, Hungary Albertkázmérpuszta, Hegyeshalom and Mosonszolnok.

History

The area around half turn was already populated in Roman times. During archaeological digs a grave field from the imperial period and a Roman villa have been found.

First mention half turns: In 1466 reported a certificate of a long-standing border dispute between the Holy cruisers from Moenchhof and the Counts of Bazin, the owners of semi- Turn, who sought an increase in their property. King Matthias Corvinus was asked to act as chief judge. On the feast of St. George, the contending parties met. A commissioner of the king spoke in place the land and vineyards the friars of Moenchhof to. In this deed half turn is mentioned by name for the first time, but is the foundation of the town believed to have been completed earlier. From the "old, first half -turn " is still about looks, size, inhabitants, etc., nothing is known. More mentions Documentary: 1487/88 - "villa Felthorom, Felthoron " 1493 - " poss. Holbenthurm "

Interpretation of the name: The name half- turn probably derives from a half- ruined tower of an old castle. This half tower is shown in the " monk Hofer Hotterbüchl ." Whether the subscriber has subscribed for this tower only for a better explanation of the territory, or has he actually existed, can not be understood. The tower could, however, to defend the important road junction of Neusiedl after Altenburg ( Magyaróvár ) and Sopron ( Sopron ) to Pressburg ( Bratislava) have served. the location of this tower could have been in the area of the castle and the ground plan of the third castle courtyard to match that of the tower. Pictorial or written evidence, there is not, however,.

The place belonged, like the rest of Burgenland until 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Féltorony. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

Economy

In half turn and the neighboring community Andau the wind farm Andau / Half Turn is currently under construction. After the building permit was issued in late 2010, the wind farm is located with a total of 79 wind turbines under construction since May 2012.

Attractions

Halbturn: baroque castle, built in 1701-1711 by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt, later rebuilt by the court architect Franz Anton Hillebrandt, and is provided by Franz Anton Maulbertsch with frescoes. Originally a hunting lodge for the Emperor Charles VI. built. In the castle regular events such as exhibitions and the Half Turner Castle concerts.
