Siladice

Siladice ( Siladitz German, Hungarian Szilád ) is a municipality in western Slovakia, with 668 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Hlohovec, a part of the Trnavský kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the hills at the lower Danube river course of the Waag, at the mouth of Dudváh into the river, 10 kilometers north of Sered, 11 kilometers south of Leopoldov and 15 kilometers east of Trnava located.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zoborská documents as Saladicz writing. At that time Siladice belonged to Nitransky Abbey and the old documents by lying on the left bank of the Vah instead of today's right. Over the centuries, the place was owned by various landlords, including the Sziládi family in the years 1490-1500 and of Esterházy since 1641. Siladice was devastated in 1663 during a Turkish attack. The first school, at that time Roman Catholic, was founded in 1856. The population was and is mainly employed in agriculture.
