The name comes from the Latin, which means silva forest. Hence the importance of Silvia / Sylvia is often given as the queen of the forest or mistress of the forest. Another context could also be a form of spirits of the air - the sylphs - exist which are also the air elementals of the Greek tradition. Indisputable is the relationship with Rhea Silvia, mother of Romulus and Remus.
