Simão Pedro Fonseca Sabrosa [ simɐu ] ( born October 31, 1979 in Constantim ) is a Portuguese football player. Since 2012 he is at Espanyol Barcelona under contract.

Career

Sporting Lisbon

Simão Sabrosa comes from the talent of Sporting Clube de Portugal, which already spawned many top players such as Luís Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Ricardo Quaresma and more. He began his professional career in 1997 at Sporting Lisbon. In his first appearance in the pros with Simão Sabrosa 17 years scored a minute after coming on his first goal.

FC Barcelona

For the 1999/2000 season he moved to the Catalans for a transfer fee of 15 million euros. In his first season at Barça Simão Sabrosa reached with the team, the Spanish vice - championship and the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. At FC Barcelona Simão Sabrosa could not really convince in two seasons, he managed only three goals in 46 league games.

Benfica Lisbon

Then Simão Sabrosa returned to 2001/ 02 back to Lisbon at SL Benfica for 12 million euro transfer fee. In the season 2004/ 05 he won with his club 's first championship in eleven years, Simão Sabrosa stood in all encounters on the pitch, scoring a total of 15 results. In six years at Benfica, he went to a total of 172 league games and 76 goals.

Atlético Madrid

In July 2007, Simão Sabrosa changed hands for € 20 million to Atlético Madrid. There he was given a contract until 2012. Simão Sabrosa debut for Atletico in the derby against Real Madrid (25 August 2007), he scored his first goal on Matchday 4 (23 September 2007) against Racing Santander.

2010 was his most successful year of his football career. Simão Sabrosa won with the Red and Whites, UEFA Europa League and Super Cup, they also failed to reach the final of the Copa del Rey. For this he was honored for best Portuguese players abroad.

Beşiktaş Istanbul

During the winter break of the season 2010/11 he spent 900,000 euros on the Bosporus to the Turkish first division club Beşiktaş JK, which he also applies to his countrymen Manuel Fernandes, Ricardo Quaresma and Hugo Almeida. In the National Team

With the national team, making his debut in the Simão Sabrosa on 18 November 1998, he was at the 2004 European Championship on home soil Vice-European Champion and participated in the 2006 World Cup, where he finished fourth with Portugal. The knockout defeat was also his last international match. Two months after the World Cup he finished off for personal reasons, surprising his career in the Portuguese national team.

Play

The 1.70 m wide dribbling strong former captain of Benfica prefers playing as a playmaker behind two peaks, but is usually used in the Portuguese national team as a left or right winger. His strengths include free-kicks, dribbles and his ball handling and technology.
