Policy

In advance of the Bulgarian Parliament elections in 2009, Simeon Djankov had worked with the economic policy program of the GERB party. A key point was that until the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, the coupling of the Bulgarian Currency Lev remains on the euro, which had already been agreed with the International Monetary Fund. Such a unilateral commitment of the exchange rate is known as a currency board. After the election, which was won by the GERB, Simeon Djankov was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister in the government of Boyko Borisov on 27 July.

On February 18, 2013 Djankov has resigned after nationwide protests against high electricity bills.
