Simeon ten Holt

Simeon ten Holt (born 24 January 1923 in Bergen, North Holland province, † November 25, 2012 in Alkmaar ) was a Dutch composer.

After studies at the Bergen composer Jacob van Domselaer ten Holt in 1949 moved to Paris, where he studied at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Arthur Honegger and Darius Milhaud.

In 1954 he returned to the Netherlands. Until the 70s, his music avant-garde different directions was committed; serial composition, electroacoustic music and musical theater were at the forefront.

A complete break with his music represents his finished work Canto Ostinato in 1979, where he had worked for several years. Canto Ostinato is a minimalist composition variable length and structure for one or more pianos, written in a harmony of the late Romantic period. The now present in numerous CD recordings composition in the Netherlands is one of the most played and most popular works of contemporary classical music.

The following compositions (eg Lemniscaat (1983 ), Horizon ( 1985), Incantatie IV (1990) and Méandres in 1999) are within these stylistics and are usually written for one or more pianos.
