Simon Henzler

Simon Henzler ( born December 1, 1976 in Ravensburg ) is a former German football player at the position of the goalkeeper. He achieved fame primarily through its work in the world cup victory heritage Winner match between FC St. Pauli and FC Bayern Munich in the second half of the season 2001 /02.

Career

Simon Henzler started with the game of football in the youth divisions of the SV Weingarten, SSV Ulm 1846, VfB Stuttgart and landed first in the Austrian first division club FC Tirol Innsbruck, where he was the backup man behind the Russian goalkeeper Stanislav Tschertschessow. In early 1998 he was lured away from second division side SV Meppen in Emsland, but remained behind Stefan Brasas the second division relegation of the club without use. The following two years were spent with Henzler Meppen in the Regionalliga Nord, without coming across the reservists role beyond. As Meppen did not make it into the 1999/2000 season to qualify for the new two-tier Regionalliga and was relegated to the Serie A, Henzler moved free transfer as a substitute for Carsten Wehlmann to second division club FC St. Pauli. Even in his first season at St. Pauli is Henzler found behind Heinz Weber on the bench again, but came in April 2001 to his first two missions in the 2nd Bundesliga and celebrated with St. Pauli the surprising promotion to the Bundesliga.

After the departure of Weber at the 2001/02 season Henzler the new addition Tihomir Bulat was first brought forward. In the game of matchday 17 against 1 FC Nuremberg ( Full 0:0) he got from coach Dietmar Demuth his chance and took it. By the end of the season he completed 17 Erstligapartien for Hamburg, could direct descent but also prevent not. He stood by, among others, in the memorable match against newly-crowned World Cup winners Bayern Munich on 6 February 2002 between the posts, the St. Pauli 2-1 sensationally decided for themselves.

At the beginning of the second division season 2002/ 03 Henzler was goalkeeper, but was canceled before 7 Round after a series of blunders and 23 goals conceded in six games by coach Joachim Philipkowski for some games from the squad and replaced by Bulat. He did not return to the root formation and was replaced during the winter break against the Bielefeld goalkeeper Heinz Müller. In the first division club Arminia Bielefeld, he only spent the second half and remained behind Mathias Hain without obligation stake.

2003/ 04 he moved free transfer on 1 FC Union Berlin in the Bundesliga 2. There he was in the duel for the position in the goal with Robert Wulnikowski. Wulnikowski sat through it and although Henzler was honored for his performance in his Union debut on matchday 9 against Eintracht Trier in the kicker sports magazine as a "man of the day", there was only enough for another use. At the end of the season Union Berlin rose from the Regionalliga and Henzler moved again, this time to league club Holstein Kiel. In Kiel he stood in the Regionalliga Nord mostly in the root formation and completed for the storks in three seasons 58 Regional operations. Also in the Oberliga season 2006/ 07 he was Holstein main goalkeeper, after the re-emergence in the Regionalliga Nord, he lost his place to Michael Frech. In the third league season 2009/10 he was the number 2, but got through injury and coach changes again its periods of use. Even after re- descent into the Regionalliga Nord, he still belongs to the cadre of Holstein Kiel and exercises the goalkeeper of the youth training center.
