Singaporean general election, 2006
The 2006 parliamentary elections were held in Singapore on May 6. In this 15th general election in the country 84 seats were reassigned.
Background
55 candidates of the People's Action Party were unopposed and thus subjected to a fight in parliament. The Workers ' Party Low Thia Khiang and Chiam See Tong Democratic Alliance of each challenged twenty candidates on the Democratic Party of Chee Soon Juan seven.
2006 results
Since the vote in Singapore on the principle of a simple majority vote, results in the following distribution of seats:
- PAP: 82
- WP: 1
- SDA: 1
The turnout was 94.01 %. An expected result, since voting is compulsory in Singapore.
