Sitra

Sitra (Arabic سترة, DMG Sitra ) is an island in Bahrain with about 42,000 inhabitants. It lies south of Manama and Nabih Saleh.
The majority of the population lives in the seven villages Wadyan, Kharijiya, Marguban, Qurayya, Mahazza, Sufala and Abul Aish.
Economy
In the northern part of the island is an industrial area. The oil reserves of the Bahrain Petroleum Company ( BAPCO ) are stored in the southern Sitra.
The refinery at Sitra was founded in 1936. This makes it the oldest active refinery in the Persian Gulf.
History
In the wake of protests in Bahrain 2011, more than 200 people were injured in clashes between demonstrators and government supporters firearm on March 16, 2011.
