The Sittaung (formerly also Sittang or Sittoung ) is a river in south central Myanmar in Bago Division. The mountains Pegu - Yoma separates its basin from that of the Irrawaddy. The river originates at the edge of the Shan Plateau southeast of Mandalay, and flows southward to the Gulf of Martaban. Its length is 420 km, its average annual discharge 50 cubic kilometers.

Although it flows through relatively flat terrain, the Sittaung to a considerable tidal range at its mouth, which makes it suitable only for small vessels. The river is navigable all year over 40 km, during three months, even 90 km. The river is primarily used for timber floating. Strong currents make the river in eastern Myanmar meaningless as a transport route. Due to lack of sediments from the Himalayas, has the catchment area of Sittaung not have the same agricultural usability, like that of the Irrawaddy.
