( Sittin ' On) The Dock of the Bay is a song that was co-written by Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper. He reached as posthumously published first single # 1 on the Billboard 200 and also # 3 on the British charts.

History

The song was recorded in 1967 by Redding, just days before he died. He wrote it on a houseboat near Waldo Point in Sausalito, California, when he was on tour with the Bar -Kays, first under the title Dock of the Bay.

Reception

The song is considered a classic and one of the songs with the highest honors. So ( Sittin ' On) The Dock of the Bay was founded in 1969 with two R & B Grammy Award and included in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame carries it under the " Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll". Among the 500 best songs of all times of the Rolling Stone magazine the song ranked at number 28, the Recording Industry Association of America chose it to number 22 in the Songs of the Century. The U.S. songwriter organization Broadcast Music Incorporated introduced the song at No. 6 -the-century songs and the transmitter Association National Public Radio chose it among the 100 "most important American musical works of the 20th century".
