Sivrice, Elazığ

Sivrice (Kurdish XUX ) is a city and capital of the eponymous district in the Turkish province of Elazig, founded in 1938. The county Sivrice located in the south of the province and borders the provinces of Diyarbakir and Malatya. In the city Sivrice 3961 and throughout the county 8,485 people ( as of 2012). The city is situated on the Sivrice Hazar Lake.

History

The region's history goes way back. It was ruled by many different peoples and empires. 1234, the region was by Sultan Kai Kobad I. were defeated in part of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum as this in 1243 by the Ilkhanate, the Seljuks became vassals of the Ilkhanate. Later, the region was part of the Beyliks Dulkadir. 1366 conquered the Mamluks of Egypt, the region and in 1507 the Safavids. The Safavids were defeated by the Ottomans in 1514 and had to withdraw from Anatolia.

In the 1930s many Turkish settlers from the Balkans and Russia were settled in the province of Elazig. For these settlers, the village Sivrice was founded on the southeastern shore of Lake Hazar 1938. As early as 1939 Sivrice was the main town of the district.
