The municipality is located in northwestern Iceland Skagabyggð in the region Norðurland vestra. On 1 January 2009 the municipality had 102 inhabitants. The parish seat is Höskuldsstaðir.
Geography
The municipality is located on the eastern shore of the Húnaflói. In the northeast of the municipality is the area Skagaheiði. The largest lake is the Langavatn north of Skagastrandarfjöll. Northern and southern parts of the community are recognized by the intervening community Skagaströnd. To the south of the municipality lies Blönduós, east Skagafjordur.
History
Skagabyggð was formed on 31 December 2001 by the merger of the two rural communities Vindhælishreppur and Skagahreppur.
