Skagensbanen

Skagensbanen ( SB) was a Danish private railway company. They ran the standard gauge railway line Skagen Frederikshavn in northern Jutland. The current operator of the route with a total length of 39.7 km, which is called in Denmark in accordance with the first operating company Skagensbanen, the Nordjyske Jernbaner.

History

The track was built in the period of 26 July 1889 to 24 July 1890 as a narrow gauge railway with a track width of 1000 mm and a maximum speed of 30 km / h. 1924, the line was converted to standard gauge. Since 2005, trains will be of the type Siemens Desiro on the track, creating a top speed of 120 km / h is reached between Skagen and Hulsig.

As part of the conversion to standard gauge track the harbor was renewed from the Skagen railway station. This begins at the southeast end of the station and led (now shut down and dismantled ) and to the gas works, your own freight cars owned ( decommissioned) to a timber trade. Already in 1916 a fishing packing house was built in the same style as the drawn by the architect Ulrik Plesner station building at the harbor. In the south of the port railway ends at the fishing monument. In the north of the port railway since 1938 ends at the fish auction hall, a now disused siding led to the quay. The harbor railway has been renovated in recent years, in 2004 the course was renewed.

Nordjyske Jernbaner

In 2001 a merger of the A / S Hjørring Privatbaner which only operated the Hirtshalsbane at this time, and the Skagensbanen A / S, which operated the Skagensbane, for Nordjyske Jernbaner.

The dissolution of the Company Skagensbanen A / S was performed by the merger on September 11, 2001.
