Skála (Village)

SKALI [ skɔalɪ ] or Skala ( Danish name: scale ) is a place of the Faroe Islands on the island of Eysturoy.

The municipality SKALI also included the place Skálabotnur. Both places are fused together and extend along the Skálafjørður, the longest fjord in the Faroe Islands. Be January 1, 2005 this community is merged with that of Runavík.

With the operation " Skala Skipasmiðja " ( "ship forged from SKALI " ) here is the largest shipyard in the Faroe Islands.

In 1994, the ship here Vasily Adonkin from Murmansk for repairs. Shortly afterwards, the Russian owner went bankrupt. The eight -man crew got no money and could not afford the flight back to Murmansk. Only two years later they could return home.

In the 16th century the Church of SKALI was flushed with a natural disaster in the sea - including all churchgoers.

In SKALI there's a campsite. The sports hall also offers a public cafeteria.
