Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm/Leogang

The Skicircus is a winter sports resort in the province of Salzburg. It extends on both sides of the valley over the mountains of GlemmValley and is complemented by a connection to Leogang. Since the area is situated around the valley and the village of Saalbach -Hinterglemm, the term " Ski Circus " was chosen.

Area

• Probably the most famous area in Skicircus located below the carbon corn head on the north side of the GlemmValley. Here are more moderate slopes, among them also found a range of World Cup Alpine World Ski Championships 1991.

• West of Kohlmaisbahn are Bernkogel, Reiterkogelbahn and mountain pasture. Again, the departures are usually mild or moderate in severity.

• The highest point in the ski circus is the " west peak " of the Shatt mountain ( 2096 meters ) on the opposite side of the valley. The Shatt mountain is actually two mountains, " Schattberg East" and " Schattberg West", and offers challenging runs.

Development

The beginnings of the Ski Circus will be around 1900. Those days came in the area with the idea to teach skiing to children of residents. After the then small village had mastered some crises that Glemmtaler road was expanded. On September 17, 1945, some men founded the Schiliftgesellschaft Saalbach. First, a drag lift and a chairlift will be built on the carbon corn. Two years later, followed by the construction of a chairlift on the Shatt mountain and a baby lift on the so-called Turmwiese and one in Wallehen. 1948 Ski and Sports Club Saalbach is established to manage the sporting area. At this time Saalbach was one of the four biggest tourist destinations in Austria, next to the city of Salzburg, Bad Gastein and Gastein yard. 1950/1951 was based in Hinterglemm Zwölferkogel - community of persons, which was the construction of the tows on the Auergsuach up to the ball trees in order.
