Sľažany

Sľažany ( Slasan German, Hungarian Szelezsény ) is a municipality in western Slovakia, with 1693 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to the district Okres Zlaté Moravce, and district Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the hill country Žitavská pahorkatina (part of the Slovak Danube lowland ) in the valley of the brook Čerešňový creek. North of the village rises the mountain Tribeč. The center is located at an altitude of 200 m nm and is located five kilometers west of Zlaté Moravce.

History

Today's church was built in 1960 by the merger of the previously separate places Dolné Sľažany (formerly " Veľké Sľažany; " Großslasan German, Hungarian Alsószelezsény ) and Horne Sľažany (formerly " Malé Sľažany "; Kleinslasan German, Hungarian Felsőszelezsény ).

Sľažany was first mentioned in 1156 as Scelemsam writing.
