Slettnes Lighthouse

Slettnes fyr is the northernmost lighthouse in mainland Europe. It is about three kilometers north of Gamvik in the Norwegian county of Finnmark.

History

The tower was built in 1905, is 39 meters high and the only cast iron in Finnmark.

During the Second World War in 1944 he was completely destroyed by German troops; after the war he became until 1948 newly built.

Climate

Due to the fact that no month reached an average temperature of over 10 ° C, the climate of the region must already be described as polar, despite the relatively mild winter. According to the Köppen climate classification and Geiger that means a classification in the tundra as type ET.
