Smack Smash is the fourth studio album by Beatsteaks. The production is professional than previous albums, even if the songs were exclusively recorded live in the studio and sound accordingly rough thanks to the producer Moses Schneider.

Formation

Work on the new album began in March 2003 in a rehearsal room in Berlin. First shots were taken in October 2003 in Mamasweed studio in Berlin, where the "foundation " ( Teutoburg- White ) was created for the album. We went in the studio room 4 where created, among other things Atomic Love and, still in October 2003, in the K4 - studio where Hello Joe was created as a tribute to The Clash singer Joe Strummer. In December 2003, the filming continued in Berlin transporter room and stopped again in Mamasweed studio. In all the songs, all five band members were involved in composition and poetry text.

Importance

MTV presenter Markus Kavka commented the video premiere of hand in hand with the words: " I'm not afraid to say that with this album Beatsteaks are finally earned superstars that they have long been must be". In fact, the album reached number 11 in the German album charts and gave the Beatsteaks so the breakthrough. The videos go hand in hand and I Do not Care as Long as You Sing, the first two singles, each reached the top spot in the charts on MTV TRL. Due to the surprising success of Smack Smash and the multitude newly won fans Beatsteaks played several tours that they repeatedly led by Germany and the neighboring countries by the end of 2005. On 23 November 2005 Smack Smash Man Records was released in Japan on Solitary.

The band themselves felt the album at time of writing as their biggest mark gelungenstes, but also the hardest working. For release of the follow-up album Limbo Messiah in March 2007, said singer Arnim Teutoburg- white looking back over the success of Smack Smash: "The success has come at us at the right moment; he could not turn your head too much us. He has a rather further pushed. I then just said to me: "Apparently it's really your religion. " We, as the success broke over us, rather broken laughed that we suddenly ran everywhere. [ ... ] Suddenly, everything was all by itself, and calculated with the album we had made from the gut. "

Singles

The video for the first single release hand in hand arose in early 2004, directed by Daniel Harder. He also produced the second video, I Do not Care as Long as You Sing, which helped the band to their final breakthrough in music television. It originated in various locations in Berlin as well as at a concert of the Beatsteaks in the Columbia Hall in May 2004. On these two performance videos followed with Hello Joe a video with more action in collaboration with Jürgen Vogel and directed by Zoran Bihac.
