Genesis

In an interview with Uncut Callahan described the recordings for the album:

"I have the main tracks in August, I think, taken with a tape. Did then added the tracks to the Arranger Brian Beattie to make write a few strings and horns parts, while I was on tour in South America and North America. When I was back, we have the instruments played - in a very old-fashioned way - four or five strings players gathered around a microphone. The band consists of a couple of buddies with whom I have toured a bit since a time, Jaime Zuverza on guitar. Brian has described his playing style as " unmacho ", which I thought was great. And Luis Martinez on drums. The bass player was Bobby Weaver, who was a friend from producer John Congleton. "

Reception

Markus Wollmann is the board 9 /10 Points and writes in disk tests:

"Who now again expected inner conflict, as it has commanded over and over again on crushing or subtly Callahan, will not find it here. "Sometimes I wish we were an eagle " is not a case in philosophical out schmücktes self-pity, no one can fall in kehlenzuschnürenden existentialism and depressed mood. The maturity Callahan shows up on his 13th album now far-reaching, wise self-reflection. "

Jan Wigger discusses the work at Spiegel Online and also assigns nine tenths of points:

" As Callahan in " My Friend ", the words" I will always love you " intones as an exact opposite of Whitney Houston, is inimitable, and the sheer beauty of" Too Many Birds " makes the mind wander - to" A Guiding Light " to " River Guard " to " rock Bottom riser " and all the other enigmatic poems of smog. " It's time to put God away" sprechsingt Callahan at the fabulous, nearly ten -minute " Faith / Void". It can not be stressed often enough. "

The album was positively evaluated and has been listed by Mojo Magazine as the second best album of 2009.
