Sons of the Holy Family

The Sons of the Holy Family (Latin: Filii Sacrae Familiae Jesus, Mary et Josephi, religious symbol: SF) is a clerical religious order in the Roman Catholic Church. It was in 1864 by St. Josep Manyanet i Vives (1833-1901) founded.

History

The Spanish priest Josep Manyanet y Vives founded in 1864 this institute of consecrated life. The tasks of the new community consisted of Catholic education and family formation on the model of the Holy Family of Nazareth. It opened on March 19, 1864 in Tremp (Spain ) a small building and called it " Colegio San José ". In subsequent years, schools were opened along the lines of Father Josep throughout Catalonia. On 2 February 1870, the Bishop of Urgell Josep Caixal i Estradé gave the episcopal permission. On April 30, 1887 issued by Pope Leo XIII. the Decretum Laudis and on June 22, 1901, the Congregation received the papal approbation also of Leo XIII. Pope Benedict XV. confirmed on 26 October 1921, the name, " Sons of the Holy Family ."

Organization

The Congregation has offices in Spain, the USA, Italy, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela. The General House is based in Barcelona, ​​the religious section is currently led by the Superior General Father Jesús Díaz Alonso, who succeeded in 2011 Lluís i Ustrell Picazo. 2005 included the Congregation 137 priests and 196 religious brothers, spread over 43 houses.
