Sosnogorsk

Sosnogorsk (Russian Сосногорск, komi Сӧснагорт, scientific transliteration Sösnagort ) is a city in the northwestern Russian republic of Komi with 27,757 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the foothills of Nordurals about 350 km north-east of the Republic capital Syktyvkar at the mouth of the Uchta in the Ischma, a left tributary of the Pechora. Sosnogorsk is only a few kilometers from the city Uchta.

Sosnogorsk the Republic is administratively subordinated directly.

The city is situated on the Pechora Railway Konosha - Kotlas - Vorkuta ( 1568 line kilometers from Moscow). Here branches off a 161 km long branch line to Troitsko - Petschorsk.

History

Sosnogorsk was created in 1939 during the construction of the Pechora Railroad first as Ischma and received city rights in 1955. In 1957, the city got its present name (from Russian sosna for pine).

Economy

The main industry is the natural gas processing ( pipeline Wuktyl ). In addition, there are farms of rail transport.
