Souk Ahras

Souq Ahras (also Souk Ahras or Souk Ahras; Arab سوق أهراس, DMG Sūq Ahras ) is a town in northeastern Algeria with just under 150,000 residents. It is the capital of the province and is located in the North African landscape Numidia.

Under Punic and Roman rule later her name was Tagaste (also Thagaste ). Pliny the Elder, Roman scholar of the 1st century, and the Antonine Itinerary mention Tagaste; however, is known about the city's history hardly anything.

The city is known as the birthplace of Tagaste canonized by the Catholic Church Doctor of the Church and philosophers Augustine of Hippo. In addition, the city is now a titular of the Roman Catholic Church (see Thagaste ( titular ) ).
