South Africa national basketball team

The South African national basketball team represents South Africa in the men's basketball internationals. Due to the apartheid policies of the South African Association could not be a member of the World Federation FIBA long time. After the end of apartheid in 1992, the association member of the international organizations and the selection of the men was able in 1995 for the first time qualify for a continental finals of the Africa Basketball Championships. In the following years it was in Southern Africa in the shadow of the dominant African National Team of Angola. Together with the Mozambican selection of the neighboring country is occupied mostly the rear seats of the finals. The best finish was ninth place in the African Cup of Nations 2003, when it was still far from a qualification for a global finals. After eight finals appearances in a row, the South African selection for the African Cup in 2013 could no longer qualify and also received from the continental federation FIBA Africa no starting place in the form of a " wildcard".
