South American Basketball Championship 1949

The Basketball South American Championship in 1949, the fourteenth Basketball South American Championship, took place between April 21 and May 7, 1949 held in Asunción, Paraguay, the hosted the championship for the first time. Winner was the national team of Uruguay, which could match for the fifth time, the second time in a row, win the title and with the national team of Argentina on the number of championships.

Each team played against each opponent once so that each team five games ( a total of 15 games were held ) had to be completed. Pro victory, there were two points for a defeat at least one point. In case of equality, the direct comparison decided. Only case of a tie for first place, there would have been a decisive final game. The team with the most points were South American champions in 1949.
