South Gloucestershire
South Gloucestershire is an independent administrative unit ( Unitary Authority) in South West England. It was created in 1996 when the county of Avon County was dissolved and its districts Kingswood and Northavon were together given sums to South Gloucestershire. South Gloucestershire is adjacent to Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and belongs to the region South West England. The administrative headquarters is located in Thornbury.
Before the area of South Gloucestershire was incorporated in 1974 in the newly formed county of Avon County, it belonged to the county Gloustershire. Today South Gloucestershire is administratively independent and only one ceremonial occasions to Gloucestershire.
