Speed skating at the 1992 Winter Olympics
The XVI. Olympic Winter Games were held from 8 to 23 February 1992 Albertville in France ( Savoie region ) instead. The Olympic speed skating competitions were held on the specially created open-air ice rink Olympic Stadium Albertville, which was already closed again at the end of the 1992 season.
Among the 10 contests - five routes in both men and women - there were a total of 354 messages start with many of the athletes from 24 states went on several lines at the start.
The first all-German Olympic team after reunification won 11 of 30 medals. Outstanding skater Gunda Niemann was that underlined its exceptional position with two gold and one silver.
