Airport Split - Kastela ( kroat. Zračna luka Split - Kastela ) is one of the most important airports in Croatia. The airport is situated between Trogir and Kastela, about 20 kilometers west of Split. He is approached daily by buses from Trogir and Split. The bus stop is directly outside the airport. The airport has 353 parking spaces.

History

The airport was taken on November 25, 1966 for air transport in operation and was designed for an annual capacity of 150,000 passengers. But in the year 1969 235.000 passengers were handled, so the airport was expanded subsequently.

The airport in 1991, was closed to traffic by the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the subsequent war Croatia. In April 1992, the operations were resumed, but at first only for military aircraft of NATO and the UN.

The airport recorded every year a new record of passengers. In 2010, there were 1,219,741 passengers.

Military part

The airport was and is of the Croatian Air Force ( Croatian Ratno Zrakoplovstvo i Protuzrakoplovna Obrana, HRZiPZO ) used for military purposes. These features south of the airfield has its own infrastructure and calls the airbase " Divulje split ". During the '50s a Retablierstollen was west of the access road to the E65 with the name " Objekat Cetina " built. The airbase has a large plate for 10 helicopters. The Retablierstollen is interpreted as traversable, U-shaped tunnel. Both inputs and outputs are incised 10-15 m into the rock. In Retablierstollen is space for about 10-20 combat aircraft. At the time of use by the JNA were at the military airfield aircraft type J -1 Jastreb, IJ -22 Orao, CL -215 and helicopter types SA 341, Ka -25, Ka -28, Mi -14 and Mi- 8 of 97. Aviation Brigade stationed. Today, the Retablierstollen is used by the MiG -21 of the Croatian Air Force.

Approach

There is a shuttle bus from Croatia Airlines subsidiary PlesoPrijevoz, which connects the airport with the center at the port of Split. There is connection to trains, buses and ferries. Tickets can be purchased on the bus. The departure times to / from the airport are coordinated with the schedules of each line aircraft. The price of a single ticket is 30 kn, the price of a round- trip tickets 40 kuna. Public transport buses with the numbers 37 and 38 connect the airport with the center of Split, Kastela and Trogir. The stops are located directly at the entrance to the airport grounds.

By car, the airport, among others, via the A1 motorway can be reached.

The airport is served directly from the German-speaking countries: Croatia Airlines flies to Frankfurt, Erfurt, Munich, Berlin -Tegel, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Kassel, Leipzig, Vienna and Zurich. Lufthansa operated Frankfurt and Munich Air Berlin seasonal Leipzig and Nuremberg, Austrian Airlines flies to Vienna, Condor flight service to Frankfurt, EasyJet to Berlin Schönefeld, Geneva and Basel and German Wings to Berlin -Tegel, Cologne / Bonn, Hamburg, Hannover, Dusseldorf, Dortmund and Stuttgart.
