History

The club was formed in 1972 as an association of sports clubs SC Wirges ( founded in 1924 ), SV Siershahn (est. 1921) and SV Ebernhahn (est. 1949). Founding chairman was then the Wirgeser architect Otto Balmert. The first football team of the club plays from the 2013/14 season in the Rhineland league. Previously, the EGC Wirges was located for many years in the football league Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar. The club was one of the league for the first time in the 1978/79 season, and was thus founding member of the third-tier league. In the years 1983, 1987, 1994 and 1998 Wirges could ascend to the Oberliga West again.
