St. Francis is a city ( town) in the U.S. state of Maine in Aroostook County. It is located near the Canadian border in the Saint John River. In Census 2000, the city counted 577 inhabitants. First colonized the place was indeed of the English-speaking population from the south of Maine, but the original inhabitants were French-speaking Acadians.

Geography and transport

St. Francis is located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Maine, near the Canadian border and just under 325 km north of the state capital of Augusta. The U.S. federal capital, Washington, D.C. located about 1150 km south-west of St. Francis. The direct neighboring towns of St. Francis in the West and in the East Allagash Fort Kent.

By car you can reach St. Francis on the Maine State Route 161. Also located in the town of a railway connection through which you can reach the nearest large towns Fort Kent and Madawaska.

According to the Census 2000, living in St. Francis 577 people who make up 236 households, and 172 families. The population density is 7.5 inhabitants per km ². There are a total of 336 housing units in St. Francis, which corresponds to a density of 4.4 dwelling units per km ².
