The Scholz Arena (sometimes Scholz- Arena, own spelling SCHOLZ ARENA, to rename 2008 Urban Forest Stadium Aalen ) is a pure football stadium in the city of Aalen ostwürttembergischen and hosted the home matches of second division VfR Aalen.

History

The terrain in the west of the center of Aalen nearby forest Rohrwang was in 1947 assigned to the VfR Aalen, was looking for a new home ground of the forest administration. After completion of the survey work in early 1948 began with the earthmoving, with a total of approximately 16,000 cubic meters of earth were moved. For lack of machinery this work was done almost entirely by hand, the club members. The completed stadium with wooden stand and standing as a Wall opposite stand was opened on 4 September 1949 under the name VfR Stadium in Rohrwang with a game against the zone division 1 FSV Mainz 05 ( Full 3:5 ). The 18 m long, 9 m deep and 5.20 m high at the front grandstand had 300 seats, by a standing 8 degrees, each 40 cm broad audience dam across playground height offered the stadium total capacity for 15,000 spectators.

Due to renovation and extension works for a total of around 300,000 DM, the stadium was locked in Rohrwang from the spring of 1964 for two and a half years. After 1998 the South Stand built, built in 1999, the clubhouse new and established press and police booths on the South Stand and 2000, a sanitary stand building in the northeastern stadium area was built, it was decided as the VfR Aalen beginning of the millennium, the rise in the second Bundesliga as a target spending to rebuild the stadium second league ready. Thanks to our recent promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2012, the DFL issued the license with the condition that transitional least 12,000 seats (instead of the actually required 15,000 seats ) offer. In the league cup match between VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, which was also the opening game after the reconstruction, the former forest stadium was sold out for the first time. The stadium has hosted games of the European Football Championship Women 2001 and international matches of the German national women's team, from games of various German youth national teams as well as the DFB - League Cup.

In addition, the Scholz Arena also the venue of concerts; so the number of spectators was at a concert of Herbert Grönemeyer in 2003 approximately 30,000. In October 2012, the name sponsor withdrew the option for five more years namesake home of VfR Aalen to stay. So the stadium will be called until at least 2018 Scholz Arena.
