Stará Voda, Gelnica District

Stara Voda ( German Backwater, Hungarian Óvíz ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 226 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), the Region belongs to Okres Gelnica, a circle of Košice and is counted to the traditional landscape Zips.

Geography

The municipality is located on a small terrace in the northeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, specifically in the part Volovské Hills, in the valley of the brook Stara voda, a tributary of Hnilec. The center is located at an altitude of 550 m nm and is 28 kilometers by road from Gelnica and 30 kilometers by road from Ves away.

History

Unlike other places in the area Stara Voda was relatively late and that as a mountain settlement next to a hammer mill in the 18th century and belonged to the estate of Smolník chamber. 1828 are listed 61 houses and 585 inhabitants. In addition to mining and forestry to the beginning of the 20th century nail making was widespread.
