Staré Hrady

Stare Hrady ( German Altenburg ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. You more than twelve kilometers southwest of the county town Jičín at Libáň.

History

At the site of the present village there was a castle, which was originally called Stara and probably was owned by the Knights Templar in the 13th century. To rule also included Libáň, Hřmenín ( today part of Markvartice ) Važice and Sedliště. Around 1340 it was in possession of the knight Ernst von Stare, which was around 1300 Viscount of Glatz as Ernst von Hostýně ( Arnošt Hostinného ) and had acquired the dominion Pardubice in 1330. After his death the rule of Stare Hrady fell as Witwengut to his wife Adlička and then to her four sons, who called themselves now of Pardubice and the oldest of the first Prague Archbishop Ernest of Pardubice was indicative of the many sources Staré Hrady as his birthplace.

In the 14th century a new Gothic castle with the Chapel of St. John the Baptist was built. 1393 sold Smil Flaška of Pardubice, the rule of Jenstejn Stara to Paul ( Pavel Jenšteina z ), which in the 15th century was followed by various owners. In 1503 it was acquired by Johann Raschin of Giant Castle and in 1567 first mentioned the sale to Christoph von Lobkowitz Altenburg. Four years later, she went over to his son Georg Proskowski of Proskau the one to transform the castle into a Renaissance castle. 1618, the debt reign of Wilhelm von Lobkowitz in 1628 and was acquired by Albrecht von Wallenstein. After his assassination in 1634 she came to the noble family of silt, but resided in neighboring Kopidlno. After the death of the childless Erwin silt acquired in 1906 Staré Hrady the White Wolf family whose daughter Henriette von Thurn und Taxis last owner was. 1921, control of state-owned.

Although the castle was destined for demolition, 1960 extensive restorations were made and subsequently housed a branch of the literary archive of the Museum of the National Literature in the buildings.

In 1964, the communities Staré Hrady and Sedliště were combined.
