Starfighters was a British new-wave -of- British -Heavy- Metal band from Birmingham, founded in 1979 under the name Savage in 1984 and disbanded again in 1987 got together again in 1989 and disbanded again.

History

The band was founded in late 1979 under the name Savage by vocalist Steve Burton and guitarist Stevie Young, cousin of AC / DC guitarist Angus Young. A short time later came bassist Doug Dennis, guitarist Pat Hambly and drummer Spencer Scrannage the band. In 1980, the band released their first single, I'm Falling in Motor City Rhythm Records. The band played in the fall of 1980 gigs opening for AC / DC 's Back-in -Black- tour and reached by a contract with Jive Records, Zomba Label Group of a sub- label. In 1981 followed about the self-titled debut album. Then was heard Steve Bailey as the new drummer. In September of the same year it went on tour in the UK in the opening act of the Michael Schenker Group, as well as a tour of France, along with Trust. Due to the success of the album in the United States there was followed by a tour with Ozzy Osbourne. In 1982, then followed by the second album in-flight movie, which was produced by Tony Platt. After the release of the album the band split from their label because they felt little support from this. After a few more concerts, the band broke up in 1984. In 1987, the band of Burton and Young was revived. As a guitarist Rik Sandford was added, while Steve Redvers bass and Jamie Hawkins played drums. This was followed by local appearances and plans for another album. However, this changed soon in the release of an EP to which should contain four songs, but never appeared. Towards the end of 1988, Young left the band to play for AC / DC. The band continued its activities until Young returned to the band. A little later, Rik Sandford left the band to join UFO. Then the other members to participate in other projects decided. So Redvers Totally Suspect joined before he played briefly with Black Sabbath. Hawkins also appeared briefly in UFO. Through participation in other projects, the project Starfighters could not be continued, so that the band officially broke up in 1989.

Style

The music is described as a mixture of AC / DC, Rose Tattoo and Blackfoot. Especially on the second album in-flight movie, the influences from the Southern rock were clearly in order to escape possible before compare with AC / DC can. Is comparable to the band with groups such as More and Split Beaver. Metalion from Slayer fanzine compared the band with groups like Aerosmith and Foreigner.
