Staurois natator

Staurois natator (Greek stauros = cross, stake, lat natator = float ) is a species of the genus Staurois from the family of the Real frogs. In English it is called Mindanao Splash Frog (Eng. about Mindanao spray frog) or Black -spotted Frog rock (Eng. black spotted rock frog). Günther named this way just before his last appointment guttatus as Ixalus. It is believed that it is in this type actually several unexplored cryptic species.

Dissemination

This species is not endangered because it is spread over a very large area. In addition, a large number of individuals is suspected and it is considered unlikely that their numbers will decrease fast enough for inclusion in the Red List.

It comes next to Borneo on the islands of Palawan, Mindanao, Leyte, Bohol, Basilan, Busuanga, Culion and Samar islands all belong to the Philippines before. All findings so far were made between 150 and 1000 meters above sea level. In places where they occur, they usually occur in large numbers.

Habitat

Generally, the type found in rainforests and in inland wetlands. P has been found so far along natator of small, rocky, fast-flowing streams in the hilly primary rainforest. Adult animals mostly sitting on branches overhanging the water or on rocks that line the shore.

The larval development takes place as well under water.

Behavior

The oviposition and the breeder take place under water. The tadpoles are found in masses among dead, floating underwater leaves.
