Stazzema

Camaiore is a town with 3301 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Lucca.

Camaiore is located on the western slopes of the Apuan Alps, near the Tyrrhenian coast. The place belongs to Versilia.

Geography

Among the districts of Arni, Campagrina, Cardoso, Farnocchia Gallena, La Culla include - Sant'Anna, Levigliani, Mulina, Palagnana, Pomezzana, Pontestazzemese (town hall seat), Pruno Retignano, Ruosina, Camaiore, Terrinca and Volegno.

The neighboring municipalities are Camaiore, Careggine, Fabbriche di Vergemoli, Massa (MS ), Molazzana, Pescaglia, Pietrasanta, Seravezza and Vagli Sotto.

History

The district Sant'Anna di Camaiore was destroyed on August 12, 1944, troops of the Waffen- SS, its inhabitants, about 560 people, mainly women and children killed. This is one of the most cruel massacre of civilians during World War II.
