History

1749 first appears on the label Stächelbärg for the rear end of the valley. In Trachsellauenen you encounter the ruins of a Erzverhüttungsanlage, here ore was mined and smelted. The then cleared forests have been reforested, so that this nature reserve presented in excellent condition. Due to the avalanche in 2003 individual areas of the nature reserve were torn affected, which are currently being reforested.

1868, the schoolhouse was built. The postal bus to Lauterbrunnen was opened in 1950. With the construction of Schilthornbahn 1965 Stechelberg was connected to tourism.

On February 6, 2003, two dust avalanches rushed to the village. Due to the nature of the avalanche, it did not come to major damage, apart from bent-over flag poles, uprooted trees and shattered windows. Due to the very heavy snowfall and the ongoing avalanche danger, the residents were not allowed to leave their houses and the school remained closed for the time being. A moment in the Friends of Nature House Stechelberg gas- animal border youth group was evacuated during the night of 6 February 7, with the help of post car in the nearby public Virgin camping. Flooding and Foehn storms put the residents too often.
