Steel Authority of India Limited, SAIL short, is the largest steel producer in India. SAIL is a State- owned company of the Government of India. The company was established on 2 December 1972. The Company was formed by the Hindustan Steel Limited ( HSL), with which on 14 January 1954, the Indian steel industry was founded after the independence of 1947. SAIL still employed approximately 115,000 people (as of 2010) and produced so that in 2006 /07, 12.6 million tonnes of salable steel.
