Ștefan Onisie

Ştefan Onisie ( born November 23, 1925 in Vulcan; † 7 July 1984) was a Romanian football player and coach. The midfielder played 156 games in the first Romanian League, the Divizia A. In 1953 and 1956 he won with CCA Bucharest as a player, in the 1960/61 season as coach the Romanian championship.

Playing career

Onisie began in 1937 with the football matches Minerul Lupeni. In 1945 he moved to AMEF Arad, with whom he played in the 1946/47 season in Divizia B. Early in 1948 he moved to AS Armata Bucharest, where he won his first title with the cup victories 1948/49, and 1950. Beginning of 1951 he joined CA Câmpulung Moldovenesc in Divizia B and rose with the club on the Upper House. After a third place in the 1952 season, the club was disbanded in the summer of 1953. Onisie returned to CCA Bucharest, where he came in the second round in 1953 only used twice and the first time won the Romanian championship. He could repeat this success as a regular player in the season in 1956 and was able to contribute with four hits, the best goal tally of his career. In the following years he was rarely used and finished in 1959 his active career.

National

Onisie came to six appearances for the Romanian national team. He made his debut on 11 October 1953 at the World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria when he was substituted at half -time break for Titus ozone. Two weeks later he was in the decisive qualifying match against Czechoslovakia for the first time in the starting lineup. Romania lost 0-1 and Czechoslovakia went a year later to Switzerland.

After more than two years of interruption Onisie returned to the circle of the national team in April 1956. He stood in all four internationals of the year 1956 in the starting lineup and came on September 10, 1956 against Bulgaria for his last international match.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career Onisie worked as a football coach. In the summer of 1960 he took over as successor by Gheorghe Popescu first time the team of CCA Bucharest (later Steaua ) in Divizia A. The 1960/61 season he finished with winning the championship from. The beginning of 1962 he was replaced by Popescu, which he in turn was succeeded in the summer of 1962. According to the vice championship behind Dinamo Bucharest in 1963 he was replaced by Gheorghe Ola in March 1964. Onisie then supervised Up Minerul Baia Mare a year in Divizia, had in the summer of 1965, however, stay with his team.

In the summer of 1970 Onisie was the third time coach of Steaua Bucharest. A year later he was replaced by Valentin Stănescu. He took over Universitatea Cluj and led the club in the 1971/72 season in the UEFA Cup. The following season, he finished with his team only on the bottom of the table and had to go.
