Ștefan Sameș

Ştefan Sames ( born October 14, 1951 in Dobroeşti, Ilfov County, † July 17, 2011 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian football player and coach. The defender played 388 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A, and was elected in 1979 to Romania's Footballer of the Year.

Career as a player

Sames began playing football in 1965 at the Bucharest children 's and youth center Steaua " 23 August ". He played in his youth for Steaua Bucharest and moved to Universitatea Craiova in 1971, where he held the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A, debuted on November 28, 1971. It developed over the season to key players and had his share of the runner-up the following year. He returned in 1973 back in exchange for Costică Ştefănescu to Steaua and could there also capture a regular place.

With Steaua Sames was 1976 and 1979 to win the Romanian Cup in 1976 and 1978, the Championship and the years. In the same year he was elected to the Romanian Footballer of the Year.

Sames left Steaua in the winter break of the 1982/83 season and moved on to league rivals FC Constanţa, who was fighting to avoid relegation. Even with the support of Sames did not manage to avoid relegation, as this was only used in half of the games. He moved to end of the season to Rapid Bucharest, which had just gained in the Divizia A. With Rapid he could save the league twice, then barely came in 1985/86 but used, so that he left the club and joined the second division Rova Rosiori joined. At the end of the season he joined the club from the Divizia C and ended his career. This he took in the 1988/89 season at the age of 37 years with a few games for Siretul Paşcani briefly again.

National

Sames played 49 games for the Romanian national football team, scoring three goals. At his first appearance he was born on April 18, 1973 during a friendly game against the Soviet Union. He remained there during his time in the national team is not permitted to participate in an international tournament since Romania always failed to qualify. His last international match was on 17 November 1982, a friendly match against East Germany when he came on in the 55th minute for Ioan Andone.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Sames was in the second half 1989/90 coach of Universitatea Cluj and led the club to relegation in Divizia A. Later he worked as a youth coach of his former club Steaua Bucharest. Due to financial constraints dismissed George Becali, the patron of the association, on 23 February 2011, a number of youth coaches, including Sames. End of February 2011 he suffered because of the excitement about his dismissal from a stroke, which led to a paralysis of the vocal cords. In the course of medical examinations in early March 2011, a nasopharyngeal carcinoma was discovered that could no longer operate. After Sames and his wife for the cost of treatment could not pay for their own and also appeals were unsuccessful, succumbed to the former defender from cancer on 17 July 2011 at Spitalul Militar in Bucharest.
